Advantages Of Natural Remedies
What are the advantages of natural remedies? Natural remedies and natural cures are non-invasive, effective, safe and affordable. Perhaps the greatest advantage of natural remedies is their accessibility. You don’t need a medical degree, prescription, or anyone’s permission to purchase and use them. (Judiciously, of course!)
Humans – the kind that looked very much like ourselves – live on Earth for some 200,000 years. We’ve done quite well for ourselves in terms of survival. We hunted and gathered and occasionally killed one another. Still, we managed to sustain ourselves, withstand harsh environments and survive for 200,000 years. How did we manage? Well, before there was “modern” medicine, there were natural remedies, natural cures, traditional medicine, and healers.
“Modern” medicine dates officially to the 18th century when the Industrial Revolution (with its crowded living and working conditions) brought about a rise in infectious diseases. Consequently, preventing and fighting infectious diseases was the primary goal of “modern” medicine. The need for “modern” medicine arose when we became an “industrialized society”. Notice the term “industrialized”.
In the past, people lived in small communities, had more space, less exposure to strangers and environmental pollutants. An ill person was an individual with an individual health condition. A knowledgeable, traditional healer provided natural remedies for most ills.
Once we became an industrialized society, all this changed: the way we live, work, eat, the way we spend our free time, and the causes of our illnesses.
“Modern” medicine rarely investigates the causes of our ills and instead categorizes them as consequences of “lifestyle”. This definition is quite true. However, if someone tells you that your illness is caused by lifestyle, you’ll automatically look for a fault in yourself. Not so fast! There is such a thing as the lifestyle you’ve chosen and there’s such a thing as living in an industrialized society. You’ve got the power to modify or change YOUR choices, but not the society at large. (If you think about it “modern” medicine came into being to manage the negative impact of the “industrialized lifestyle” on human health.)
Many of us didn’t notice that as a result of industrialization, we and our health became commodities, while healthcare became an industry.
Medical doctor today is rarely a healer focusing on the individual patient, but an assembly line technician of sorts following a list of universal standards. As much as it is true that we have many “lifestyle diseases” in common, we remained individuals who don’t always respond well to standard treatments, prescriptions, and medical procedures. To compound the problem, “modern” medicine – unlike the old-fashioned healer – is a multi-billion industry that benefits from repeat business, chronic diseases, and worsening health conditions.
I’m not saying that natural remedies and natural cures have all the answers; “modern” medicine doesn’t have them either. I’m not saying that natural remedies and natural cures are always the better choice. I am saying however that natural remedies and natural cures are often as – and in some cases, even more – effective as modern, synthetic drugs while being safer and cheaper. I am saying also that natural remedies and natural cures – in some cases – may prevent painful and unnecessary surgery.
How dare I make such blasphemous statements? Because I firmly believe that a patient should be provided with COMPLETE information on the available treatment options (both medical and natural!) but ISN’T.
In many cases, natural treatment options are BETTER for the patient but not profitable to the healthcare industry. Feel free to draw your own conclusions.
Why am I explaining this? Because in the US, there is no research or clinical trials conducted to legitimize the use of natural remedies or natural cures. (If there were, the benefits of nutraceuticals would be common knowledge. In other countries there are. In several highly developed countries, some natural remedies became a part of “modern” medical treatments.) We don’t have such studies because our clinical trials and research are paid for by big business. Since no nutraceutical can be patented, claimed ownership of, or restricted to the public, no business stands to gain….
Nutraceuticals (certain foods and substances derived from natural sources) have healing properties. In many cases, nutraceuticals can prevent disease as well as cure disease. Nutraceuticals are successful also in treating a condition not recognized by “modern” medicine as a disease: aging. That’s of course, in addition to being a huge asset in self-care.
“MODERN” MEDICINE
– Synthetic drugs have adverse side effects
– Invasive procedures are usually irreversible: it is the patient who gets to live with a surgery’s outcome
– Once you begin medical treatment, or if medical treatment fails, you can’t change your mind and dial it down, explore alternative medicine or natural cures: your body won’t respond to gentler, natural treatments
NUTRACEUTICALS
– Natural remedies are effective and have no harmful side effects
– Natural cures – and nutraceuticals, in general – are conservative and don’t involve surgeries
– Natural remedies – unlike surgeries – won’t permanently alter your body
– Natural cures – and nutraceuticals, in general – can be dialed up or down as needed; they won’t prevent you from exploring other treatment options
“Modern” medicine could help you. It could also harm you. Evaluate the pros and cons carefully and EARLY. (BEFORE medical treatment causes you irreversible harm!)
How did I become an expert and a passionate advocate for natural remedies, natural cures, and nutraceuticals? “Modern” medicine brought me to near death. Not being a healthcare professional, I had no other choice than to reluctantly explore nutraceuticals. At the beginning, I was very skeptical. Evetually however natural remedies saved me and restored my health. (Well, that’s of course the short version, the longer one is much more compelling. My experience taught me plenty about “modern” medicine, health insurance that considers a patient’s death a cost-effective treatment option, and a lot more!)
If you are a non-believer, consider this: natural remedies and natural cures have a longer effectiveness and safety record than ANY synthetic drug. Natural remedies and natural cures – not “modern” medicine – kept us alive for 200,000 years. Ponder on it!
